GLL Makes a Splash at ASA Awards
Charitable social enterprise GLL made a splash at the annual Amateur Swimming Association’s Swimtastic Awards, which took place on Saturday 18th October 2014 at a glittering ‘Oscar-style’ ceremony in Birmingham.
GLL was runner up in the prestigious Facility Operator of the Year category, having won the category in 2013. The social enterprise was recognised for its use of innovation and partnership initiatives to increase participation in all areas including learn to swim, competitive swimming, fitness swimming, teacher education and public swimming. The successful mobilisation of the London Aquatics Centre and GLL’s innovative schools swimming programme were also highlighted.
GLL Senior Sport Manager Andrew Clark said: " To come first and second in two consecutive years is a testament to the extremely high standard of swimming provision that we offer. 2014 has had numerous highlights for us ranging from the launch of the Tom Daley Diving Academy to the successful opening of the London Aquatics Centre – a fantastic example of the 2012 Olympic legacy in action.
GLL Swimming Teacher Rachel Cooper who teaches at Thamesmere Leisure Centre in The Royal Borough of Greenwich received a gold award in the Swim Teacher of the Year category. She was recognised for her knowledge, hard work and popularity amongst Swim School customers at the centre and her key role in growing the programme, which now teaches more swimmers than ever before. Rachael is a graduate of GLL’s Swimming Teacher’s Academy.
