GLL Named Facility Operator of the Year 2013 at Amateur Swimming Association Awards (ASA)
Charitable social enterprise GLL, is celebrating after winning the ASA award for Facility Operator of the Year at the recent Kelloggs Swimtastic Awards 2013, which were held at Edgebaston Stadium, Birmingham on Saturday 16th November.
The judges at the Amateur Swimming Association recognised GLL for its ‘cradle to grave’ approach to aquatics participation. The judges commented that: “GLL has consistently invested in Aquatics to ensure quality products and programmes are delivered in its facilities, by a knowledgeable workforce that meet the needs of the communities it works within; thus creating the right environment to enhance participation.”
The leisure operator manages 90 swimming facilities across England and Wales ranging from traditional listed open air pools such as the art deco Charlton Lido, to family focussed centres like York Waterworld and elite sporting venues including the London Aquatics Centre, which is scheduled to re-open to the public in Summer 2014.
Not only did GLL receive the Facility Operator of the Year accolade, it was also runner up in the Community Project of the Year category for its Women & Girls Swimming Programme in Tower Hamlets, East London.
Andrew Clark, Senior Sports Manager at GLL commented: “It is great to achieve national recognition for the work we have undertaken in partnership with local authorities. We have a great team from managers to swimming teachers and lifeguards, all of whom are passionate about what they do.
“We have put a clear emphasis on raising standards across the board, from facilities to customer service and this has resulted in rising levels of swimming participation. Our wide range of programmes means we offer something for everyone, whether they wish to swim for fun, for fitness or have serious Olympic ambitions.”
