Merton Free Swimming Scheme Update

The London Borough of Merton in partnership with GLL is pleased to announce the continuation of a free swimming programme for under 16s until 5 September 2010.

Merton Council and GLL are committed to providing high quality, Quest accredited sport and leisure facilities.

Together we are increasing the range of recreation and sporting activities for all the family to enjoy in a pleasant and restful environment.

Merton and GLL have worked together to deliver new facilities within the borough's leisure centres and have agreed an ongoing programme of further improvements. The centres in Wimbledon, Morden and Mitcham provide excellent recreational activity programmes and opportunities for Merton's community to exercise, stay healthy and have fun.

We are sure the developments planned will enable our leisure centres to offer great and innovative facilities for the future in order to help local residents get healthier and fitter. We place great emphasis on promoting inclusion, and on making our services accessible to the whole community so that everyone can maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay physically active.

In 2008, London welcomed the start of the Cultural Olympiad - the four-year celebration leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. GLL and the London Borough of Merton continue to work together to repeat the success of our own Paralympic handover event in September 2008 by running annual Disability Days for local residents and carers.

We are also working in partnership to create employment opportunities for young people in the borough and ensure we build a workforce that encapsulates the aspirations of future generations.
