Leisure Centres in Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest Free Swimming Scheme Update

The London Borough of Waltham Forest in partnership with GLL is pleased to announce the continuation of a free swimming programme for Waltham Forest residents who are 16 years and under and over 60 until 5 September 2010.

For the most update free swimming session information view the online pool programme www.gll.org/pool_programme

Waltham Forest Council, in partnership with GLL is committed to providing accessible, high quality leisure services to help our residents stay healthy and active.

Our position as an Olympic and Paralympic Borough presents opportunities to provide exciting activities to help Waltham Forest become an even better place to live and our leisure centres will play a key part in these ambitions.

For me, participation in sports provides skills for life. Where I grew up I had the sea to swim in and open space to explore. I learnt to swim as a child and this not only means that I can now share this sport with friends but it once saved my life. Today I am a keen walker and rely on it for relaxation and exercise.

We want children in Waltham Forest, who live in a far more urban environment, to have good access to pools, gyms and playing fields so they can develop their skills for life, whether they take up a professional sporting career or just to keep healthy and enjoy life with family and friends.

Our commitment to this includes kids swimming for free during school holidays  enabling our young people to increase their level of physical activity.

Waltham Forest is committed to continuing to provide high-quality activities in its leisure centres to enable you to take the opportunity to stay physically active. I very much hope that you will enjoy using our leisure centres in the coming year.

Councillor Geraldine Reardon
Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture

Within Waltham Forest, GLL also operates the Peter May Centre in partnership with the London Playing Fields Foundation.

The London Playing Fields Foundation believes that protecting playing fields in London improves the lives of local communities - the innovative partnership between GLL and LPFF at the Peter May Sports Centre, demonstrates how a charity and a social enterprise can work together to achieve shared objectives and deliver a first class Health and Fitness Leisure Centre.

The London Playing Fields Foundation is committed to widening, increasing and sustaining participation in sport and the Peter May Sports Centre provides affordable access to outdoor and indoor sports facilities for the residents of Waltham Forest.

The Foundation is delighted to be working in partnership with GLL to create a more active and healthier borough and is looking forward to a long and happy association.
