ENERGY CHAMPION AT WALTHAM FOREST POOL & TRACK

As the UK`s largest leisure Trust, GLL is at the forefront of a new challenge that cannot be ignored - the challenge of climate change.

As a leading social enterprise we at GLL recognise our responsibility to actively manage our impact on the environment in collaboration with our partners.  The use of energy and water is vital in the delivery of GLL's services and represents a significant proportion of our operating costs.  Climate change, potential water shortages and rapidly rising energy costs mean that the importance of increasing our sustainability through controlling consumption and reducing waste is paramount.

The main functions of a GLL Green Energy Champion are to:

• identify areas of waste within the centre
• identify areas of water waste within the centre
• propose ideas for reducing energy waste and promote environmental initiatives
• carry out regular inspections of the centre in order to appraise  the manager of current issues within the centre
• promote energy efficiency and environmental awareness within the staff team
• attend departmental meetings to help the General Manager to communicate relevant energy and environmental information
• encourage ideas from the staff team and liase with the General Manager on the feasibility of implementing the best ideas
