What is Social Enterprise?

Businesses with primary social objectives, which are not driven by profit.

"Social enterprise is the great institutional innovation of our times."
David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party 08 August 2007

As a charitable social enterprise we are able to combine the business skills of the private sector with a strong public sector social agenda. This is combined with the delivery of our charitable objectives, which form the core of our service delivery.

A social enterprise is not defined by its legal status but by its nature: its social aims and outcomes, the basis on which its social mission is embedded in its structure and governance, and the way it uses the profits it generates through its trading activities.

Social Enterprise London - an agent for change, working with individuals, enterprises, organisations and government to make a social enterprise happen.

Social Enterprise Coalition - the UK's national body for social enterprise. The voice for the sector, we support and represent the work of our members, influence national policy and promote best practice.

SpoRTA - the major organisation representing Cultural and Leisure trusts in the UK.  Membership is open to non-profit distributing organisations that manage cultural and leisure facilities open to the general public.
