Countdown to launch of Social Saturday 2015 at Better Extreme Barking Sporthouse

Charitable social enterprise GLL will host a launch event with Social Enterprise UK at the Better Extreme indoor skate park in Barking on Thursday 3 September 2015 to celebrate Social Saturday 2015 (10th October) – a nationwide day of events and activities which celebrate social enterprise, social investment and social savings in the UK.

Social Saturday is part of Social Enterprise UK’s Buy Social Campaign which urges consumers, the public and private sectors to use their purchasing power to create positive social and environmental impact. It raises awareness about the options for everyday consumers who can utilise social savings and social investment opportunities which allow money to be invested into businesses whose social mission they support.

GLL is a charitable social enterprise which has been trading for 23 years.  GLL manages over 179 public leisure facilities across the UK, and reinvests all financial surpluses back into the service.

The state of the art venue in Barking boasts a 200 station gym, with cardiovascular, functional and strength training equipment split across three levels, a 5 court sports hall, and a fantastic new 900 m2 skate park - with ledges, ‘flat bars’ and ‘Euro-gaps’ including London’s very first key-hole Birchwood bowl not to mention a 14 element climbing adventure and a new café.

Mark Sesnan, Managing Director of GLL said:

“GLL are proud to partner with Social Enterprise UK and the Cabinet Office to launch this years’ Social Saturday campaign. For over 22 years, we have been encouraging people across the nation to ‘buy social’, and we’re proud to see our social enterprise roots flourish as we grow right across the UK.”
