Visitors bowl in to celebrate opening of local leisure facility
Bath Councillor, Bob Goodman recently joined invited guests for the first glimpse of the redeveloped Better, Bath Sports and Leisure Centre. Marking the completion of the latest phase of the £8 million project, visitors were among the first to sample new facilities, including a bowling alley and soft play area.
This second phase of the redevelopment, in partnership between GLL, the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, through its customer brand, Better, and Bath & North East Somerset Council, follows the completion of initial works earlier this year, including refurbishment of the gym and sports hall, as well as the introduction of two new, purpose-built fitness studios.
To commemorate the launch of the new and improved facilities, including the new eight-lane ten-pin bowling alley, Councillor Goodman was on hand to bowl the very first ball at the new lane.
Commenting on the new facilities, Councillor Bob Goodman, Cabinet Member for Development & Neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted these wonderful new leisure facilities will be opening this week. They are a great addition to the city and will, I’m sure, encourage many more people to spend their leisure time here.”
Juliette Dickinson, Regional Director at GLL commented: “We are delighted to welcome visitors to experience the newest facilities at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre. We continue to work closely with Bath & North East Somerset Council, as part of our commitment to improving facilities across the borough, allowing more people to be more active more often.”
Ian Cotgrave, Managing Director for leisure design and build specialist, Createability, said “We are pleased to have been involved in the project to redevelop Bath Sports and Leisure Centre as GLL’s preferred design and build contractor. The quality, look and feel of the newly opened facilities are a credit to all involved. Work is now progressing well on the third phase.”
Additional work is continuing at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre, with a brand new trampoline park due to open in the coming weeks. For more information on Bath Sports and Leisure Centre and other local Better centres, click here.
