GLL Gets Active for National Fitness Day 2016, The Most Active Day of the Year at Over 90 Leisure Centres Nationwide

National Fitness Day on Wednesday 7th September will see a huge range of free events and taster sessions take place across the country. Better are providing free activities for everyone as part of their involvement in National Fitness Day, helping more people get active more often and make it the most active day of the year in the UK.

Better, the customer facing brand of the charitable social enterprise GLL, are participating in this year’s National Fitness Day at over 90 leisure centres across the UK, which follows on from the involvement in the nation’s biggest sports day, I Am Team GB.

Better leisure centres will have sports and activities for the whole family to join in with, from yoga to circuits to group cycle sessions, with the aim to inspire people to get moving while making it easy and fun to try something new.

Marco Coppola, GLL’s National Health and Fitness Manager, said, “All GLL staff are proud to be part of National Fitness Day and host the free sessions and tasters.

“We’re inviting our local residents and members to come and try the different activities along side our staff and join in with this UK-wide celebration of fitness and physical activity, and see what we have on offer in the centre for all family members throughout the rest of the year.”

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Chair of National Fitness Day organiser ukactive said:

“National Fitness Day is a powerful tool to raise the profile of physical activity and the role it plays in increasing the health of our nation. By engaging people across the country we can help provide a pathway into continued involvement in physical activity.”

Tracey Crouch, Minister for Sport said:

"With lots of taster sessions and free events, National Fitness Day is a fantastic opportunity to encourage greater participation in physical activity, in line with our sports strategy.

"Sport and physical activity can have a really positive impact on people's lives, improving both physical and mental health - I hope as many people as possible get involved on the day."
