Centre Currently Closed due to Structural Issues
Lambeth Council took the difficult decision to close Streatham Leisure Centre on the 25 November 2009 after investigations by structural engineers raised concerns about the condition of the building. The council had closed the swimming pool on the 16 November after problems were identified with the ceiling, but further investigations have revealed more widespread structural problems in the building.
The safety of users is the council's paramount concern, and therefore the Centre is for the foreseeable future. In the meantime, people are being directed to the borough's other Leisure Centres in Lambeth as well as other nearby public leisure centres.
Service Update
Due to the Government withdrawing its funding to Councils for the Swim4Life free swimming programme (16 and under and over 60s), the Government scheme will cease on 31 July 2010. Some Councils are choosing to continue to fund free swimming in their areas. Please visit the Borough page to see if the scheme is continuing.
