GLL Joins Forces with CLUK
Leisure and libraries operator GLL is backing CLUK's #SeriouslySocial Campaign (12 - 16 May) to help shine a spotlight on the social impact leisure trusts make on community health and wellbeing - while promoting people and purpose over profit.
GLL - a charitable social enterprise and staff-owned cooperative - has a leading position as one of the UK's largest leisure trusts, employing a diverse workforce of 11,000 people - ranging from nursery and library assistants to fitness instructors, lifeguards and health managers - over a network of 356 facilities.
It operates public services in partnership with 60 local authorities, public bodies and sports organisations - with services delivered under the ‘Better’ brand.
Last year, GLL was nominated at the CLUK Seriously Social Awards in the Employment & Skills category for its investment in its workforce - and succeeded in taking the runner-up spot at its first attempt.
Joe Rham, GLL's Director of Customers and Communities said:
"Amplifying the important part that social businesses play in peoples lives and health is a key focus for GLL and we are delighted to lend our weight to CLUK's Seriously Social Campaign.
"Their championing of the leisure trust sector is much needed in the current climate when many services are facing challenging finances.
"We never forget we are a people-centred business - whether that's our customers or our staff. We give back with sector-leading training and development, great careers and affordable access for our customers so everyone can live healthier and happier lives."
