Awards

GLL’s success is reflected in our award-winning performance. We’re proud to display these badges of recognition, for our positive work in the community and our progressive approach.

Charter Mark

Now known as the Customer Service Excellence Scheme, a Charter Mark was a national standard of excellence award issued by the Cabinet Office in recognition of excellent customer service. The Charter Mark was a major part of the government's drive to modernise public services.

It is unique among quality schemes as organisations are judged on their results through the service that the customer actually receives. It shows that customers are being put first. It demonstrates to people, both customers and people in other organisations, the high standards in public service that can be achieved.

GLL is the first leisure organisation to have attained this award.

Investors in People Award

Launched in 1991, Investors in People is the UK's leading people-management standard. It’s a business-improvement tool designed to help all kinds of organisations develop performance through their people.

GLL is proud to be an accredited Investors in People company. We’ve been awarded this status every year since 1996 and currently hold Silver status.

Learning Skills Council Award

The Learning Skills Council was the public body responsible for planning and funding high-quality training and education for over 16’s in England. (It has now been replaced by the Skills Funding Agency and the Young People’s Learning Agency.)

UKactive Awards

Formerly known as Fitness Leadership and Management Excellence (FLAME), the ukactive Awards are the UK Leisure Industry’s most prestigious awards for excellence and best practice across the sector.

Winners undergo a rigorous, independent assessment of their facilities.

At the 2019 awards, Rainbow Leisure Centre was awarded Best Club/Centre of the Year for the London Region and Olympia Leisure Centre was also named winner for the Northern Ireland & Wales Region.

In addition, GLL employee Haider Ali was awarded Unsung Hero, for his work at Wembley Leisure Centre.

UK Business Awards

The UK Business Awards is dedicated to rewarding individuals and organisations who have demonstrated exceptional business performance. At the 2018 awards, GLL was awarded two prizes. Kensington Leisure Centre was awarded Team of the Year in recognition of its work to deliver vital services in the community following the tragic fire at the neighbouring Grenfell Tower.

GLL also received the Management Education and Training award for its Management Academy, a training and development scheme to nurture talent within the business to become the next generation of leaders.

SEUK Awards - Market Builder

In 2019, GLL won this award in recognition of its support for social enterprises in its supply chain. GLL spends over £15m a year with socially purposed businesses, strengthening the sector as a whole.
