GLL to operate Enfield Leisure Centres from December

GLL – the charitable social enterprise behind the Better brand - has been selected as Enfield Council’s partner to operate their 6 leisure facilities (Albany, Arnos, Edmonton, Southbury, Southgate and Bramley Bowls) from December 4th this year for a period of up to 5 years.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Open Spaces and Local Economy, Cllr Chinelo Anyanwu, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to enter an agreement with GLL to provide excellent leisure facilities for the people of Enfield.

“We are working with GLL to ensure that there is a seamless transition so that staff and users of our leisure centres are not impacted by the change of provider . We will also invite community groups who use these facilities to meet with GLL, to discuss arrangements going forward. We look forward to working with GLL to further shape and develop the borough’s sports and leisure provision.

“Enfield Council is committed to improving leisure and sports opportunities for local people to enable more active lifestyles which in turn will support stronger, healthier and safer communities.”

Enfield Council’s leisure centres will join a network of over 250 sports and leisure facilities managed by Better in London and across the UK.

Peter Bundey, CEO of GLL said: “We are looking forward to start this exciting new partnership with Enfield Council to operate their leisure facilities. There are many strengths and similarities in the forward vision and values of the Council and GLL as a charitable social enterprise and this will see us working closely together to improve the opportunity for residents to become more active, more engaged and live healthier lives.

“We are also delighted to be able to bring some of the benefits of our employee-owned business which offers great training and career opportunities for our employees both locally and across the UK.”

The new partnership will see discussions progress on how Borough residents take advantage of new opportunities including the GLL Sport Foundation for talented athletes, Better in the Community / Better at Home (via the Better_uk app), Concessionary Access and Apprenticeship Schemes – as well as as well as a range of new programme initiatives for adults, juniors and families across swimming lessons, swimming, junior fitness and gymnastics.

Transition arrangements will be shared with customers in due course – including information on service enhancements.
