Community Impact
For over 30 years, GLL has partnered with councils, charities, local organisations and social businesses to make wellbeing, social connection and learning more accessible in communities across the UK.
Protecting and providing public services
As a charitable social enterprise and worker-owned co-operative, we strive to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of local communities by providing accessible, high-quality and affordable sports, leisure and cultural services nationwide. Every penny we make is redistributed back into these services and into the wellbeing of the communities we serve.
As part of this commitment, we established the GLL Sport Foundation and GLL Literary Foundation. Through these initiatives, we provide people with the opportunities, resources and support they need to develop their talents, achieve their goals and reach their potential.
GLL Sport Foundation
The GLL Sport Foundation is the UK's largest independent athlete support programme, helping talented athletes overcome barriers and achieve sporting success.
Operated by GLL, the GSF works alongside partners including SportsAid, SportsAid Wales, the Mary Peters Trust and National Governing Bodies of Sport to support talent pathways across the UK.
Through funding and access to essential services, the GSF enables athletes to develop their potential and perform at their best.
Each year, the GSF supports more than 3,100 athletes across the UK, helping them achieve success and inspire future generations of athletes.
GLL Literary Foundation
The GLL Literary Foundation is a national programme that champions the transformative power of reading through partnerships with libraries, authors and local communities.
Supporting emerging children's authors across the UK, the Foundation provides mentoring and development opportunities that help bring new voices and stories to life. In partnership with The Reading Agency, it promotes a more accessible and diverse literary landscape, inspiring young readers through stories that reflect a wide range of experiences.
Through this work, libraries continue to thrive as centres of creativity, learning and community.
