As a lifelong sports enthusiast and participant, it was inevitable that Blair would spend his professional life in the sport and leisure industry. Originating from the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent be started his career in a local leisure centre.

His first role was as a lifeguard and he was keen to progress and completed numerous roles with local authority and private leisure operators from Supervisor, Duty Manager, Assistant to Centre Manager. He enjoyed the customer engagement and continued to coach volleyball, swimming and judo, where he also competed at county and also national level.

Blair joined GLL in June 1996 and very quickly saw what GLL were delivering and the not-for-profit benefits. His roles with GLL started as General Manager progressing to Regional Manager. In 2007, his focus changed to Facilities Management and is currently Head of Corporate Technical Services.

He supports GLL colleagues in numerous areas, including:

• New build projects
• Leisure centre refurbishments and developments
• Facilities management and compliance
• Utility and carbon management
• Planned preventative and lifecycle maintenance
• Supporting GLL partners in facility developments, new or refurbishments
